The primary role of the data protection officer (DPO) is to ensure that her organisation processes the personal data of its staff, customers, providers or any other individuals (also referred to as data subjects) in compliance with the applicable data protection rules. In the EU institutions and bodies, the applicable Data Protection Regulations (Regulation (EU) 2018/1725) obliges them each to appoint a DPO. Regulation (EU) 2016/679, which obliges some organisations in EU countries to appoint a DPO, will be applicable as of 25 May 2018.
GDPR applies to data controllers and processors based both within and outside of the EU.
In addition to meeting the general compliance standards, controllers and processors outside the EU also need to take a few extra steps to make themselves more available to regulatory authorities. One of these steps is the need to appoint a Data Representative.
A Data Representative is not a DPO. It is a distinct role with its own responsibilities
DPIA's should be conducted to all organisation that process personal information and are likely in a high risk to the rights and freedoms of individuals. We conduct an extensive assessment of your organisation allowing us to identify risks that must be addressed.
